Get away from it

...to the French Riviera

Top tips for choosing the perfect destination and the perfect vacation rental for your family.

This page will save you time and money and help you get the most out of your holiday!

The French Riviera is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on earth, ideal for both those seeking adventure, and those looking to relax on the beach. Pockets of the French Riviera, particularly Saint Tropez, are famous for their high quality, pristine beaches while towns like Nice have all that any modern European city has to offer. There are a great many options when you want to get away from it.

First, you have to choose a destination that suits you and your family. Second, you need to find accommodation at the right price, and with enough space for everybody in your party! One of the most popular types of accommodation on the French Riviera is vacation rentals, or holiday rentals if you're from the other side of the Atlantic. This page is designed to offer you two things, some helpful tips on choosing the right destination and a guide on all the vacation rental companies operating on the French Riviera. Our family has rented a private villa every tinme we've visited the south of France and we can't imagine a vacation any other way.

Our pick of the Riviera - Get away from it to the following destinations

Nice

Nice is a city first and foremost. People are going about their everyday lives, working, commuting and while work life does tend to stop around summer time when all the tourists are around, there's no escaping that Nice is not the most relaxing destination. Having said that, if you like being in the thick of things, Nice's Old Town and the long stretch of the Promenade des Anglais are good spots to position yourself. Nice has a beach as well but it's not the sandy beach that you would get down in Saint Tropez, it's mostly rocks in fact, not good for those with delicate feet! The flip side of the coin is that Nice has some of the best bars, restaurants, clubs and attractions that are on the Riviera. In summary, if you're the type that always needs something to do, Nice is for you. If you need somewhere a little more tranquil, keep reading!

Cannes

Cannes is upmarket. It features lots of really beautiful properties with price tags to match. It's a big town with about 75,000 people but it's significantly smaller than Nice. The net result is that if feels sleepier. If you're a group of young friends looking for a holiday destination, maybe give Cannes a miss. The one thing that Cannes does really well is beach clubs. All along the Croisette (the main stretch along the water), you'll find beach clubs with direct access to lovely sandy beaches and plentiful access to cocktails! If that sounds like your calling, Cannes is unmissable.

Saint Tropez

Saint Tropez is tiny. If you visit in the depths of winter, don't expect to have too much company. At its heart, it's a small fishing village. Once summer rolls around however, Saint Tropez transforms! Saint Tropez has lots and lots of beach clubs, all super fabulous, some super exclusive but there's something for everyone. Saint Tropez's beaches are unparalleled! The town itself is really pretty and well kept, it's definitely essential to spend at least a few days in any trip to the French Riviera.

I love the Riviera, now, where do I stay?

There are lots of hotels on the French Riviera but the majority are very expensive for the floor space you get. Because of this, a vibrant vacation rental industry has developed in the region and renting private accommodation, either a house, villa or apartment offers far more flexibility and value for money to the discerning visitor. Below, we strive to list all of the vacation rental companies present on the French Riviera, point out some pros and cons, what you can expect from each website, how much you can expect to pay and what you get for your money.
